Maureeny Wishfull

This is a very rare privately-pressed album featuring Jimmy Page (guitar/sitar), John Williams (guitar/vocals) and Big Jim Sullivan(guitar). The distinct trio is described at this work as psychedelic folk, and the album was made in Moonshine records in 1968. Rumoured to have been just 300 or so copies pressed, this legendary piece is one of the great Page/Zeppelin-linked collectors items. John Williams had earlier recorded a solo album and a couple of 45s.

Orang-Utan

Orang-Utan is a little known acid rock band featuring a beautiful guitar solo work with deep tracks. Engineered by Roy Thomas Baker, a super-producer, lone self-titled release came out on Bell-Arista in 1971. The group disbanded after a dispute with their management after recording. Apparently, the band’s name wasn’t their own choosing nor was the album art. In fact, the original tapes were stolen and the album was released without the band members knowledge. They unfortunately had no choice but to disband. With a good mix between psychedelic, progressive and hard rock, this work is a nice tip for fans of '70s rock.

Impacto Cinco

That’s the second and last album of the brazilian group, from Rio Grande do Norte, Impacto Cinco. At the top of the charts in Brazil at the time, the tropicalia with the jovem guarda choked the shy psychedelic scene of the country, which is far from implying in a poor sound quality. With a mature music and good arrangements, the Impacto Cinco is the proof that the years of the peak of occidental psychedelia also had its brand clearly in Brazil.

The Entrance Band

The story begins with the name Entrance, project of the longhaired weirdo blues loner Guy Blakeslee of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. His peculiar psychedelic style, many times associated with Devendra Banhart and Syd Barrett, caught the attention of Paz Lenchantin, veteran of groups like Queens of the Stone Age and A Perfect Circle, and the result, plus the drummer Derek W. James, was Prayer of Death, an album with deep transformations, making Blakeslee style pass of weirdo folk singer to psychedelic rockstar.
After “Prayer”, the three players have committed to the full realization of the power trio, transforming the project into The Entrance Band, and releasing this debut album showing all the new formula is capable of.

Birigwa

Originally released in 1972, this album by the Uganda born Birigwa is one of the most unique and hard to categorize albums of afro-folk-jazz-blues-psych we’ve ever heard. Birigwa came to America to study at the New England Conservatory in the early ’70s when he made this beautiful record, which falls somewhere between Tropicalia, pastoral South American psych, spiritual soul-jazz and eclectic blues, accented by his super versatile vocals which swing freely from deep to falsetto, playful to wonderfully weird to downright pretty. Backing Birigwa was a really strong band, his sound bolstered by the rich bass lines of Stark Reality member Phil Morrison and the perfect flute touches of Stan Strickland. Think of Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, Devendra Banhart or Milton Nascimento, with one foot in Africa, the other dipping its toes in sonic waters flowing from all sorts of great and unexpected places.
